Bright and luxurious interior of a country house in the Moscow region

When we start looking for our dream home, we look everywhere for inspiration. On social networks, in fashion magazines, blogs and specialized websites, in TV shows...

A mix of information that we don’t necessarily need to fully comprehend, as this is the perfect soil to feel even more lost. Photos of the most beautiful interiors and this article will be a source of inspiration for you. We will enthusiastically share our ideas and advice.

Your apartment becomes the center of family life. If ideal conditions for cooking, a comfortable seating area, rooms for receiving guests and playing sports are created, then life is a success, which is fully integrated into urban public life.

The ideal interior for your ideas

The ideal is to be guided by professionalism. You can also turn to online magazines that feature projects by architects and interior designers, decorators and interior designers. This is a great way to make your project a reality!

  • You have yet to understand the obvious; an architect's advice is always very wise. So their achievements may allow you to dream about your home sweet home.
  • So what if you took inspiration from beautiful interior design projects online to create your own design for your dream home?

The most important thing is that a “teaching method” be created. Your ideas must be implemented. Here are some very simple tips for drawing good tips for a beautiful interior on the web.

Place furniture correctly

To create a rich interior, you need to take furniture placement seriously. It should be symmetrical, since it is symmetry that creates a feeling of majesty, calmness and solidity.

Look for images that inspire you

Feed your imagination with beautiful images discovered through navigation and categorize them. For example, create projects for each living space separately.

You can do this on sites whose purpose is to create tables of your “favorites,” such as Pinterest. Learn to understand what you like It sounds simple, but this is one of the most difficult steps.

It should already be said that your home is not a store catalog and that it should look like you and be personalized. There is no need to buy all the furniture for your home from one store. Don't use Scandinavian style.

Beautiful living rooms

A living room in a beautiful apartment is always an example of refined taste and strict organization. The interior composition is usually built around a sofa group. The TV area is usually minimalistic; a built-in fireplace or an aquarium can help emphasize it. When creating a living room interior, much attention is paid to lighting. In addition to a beautiful central chandelier, you will also need stylish lamps, which usually accent the bar counters, cabinet or fireplace areas.

Living room in milky chocolate shades

Milk chocolate shades give the interior of the apartment an expensive and respectable look. This range, like beige and brown tones, always remains in trend. It also goes well with a whole range of bright colors. Therefore, when you want to refresh a composition, like the one shown in this photo from 2020, you can introduce a couple of new color accents in textile design elements into the interior of a beautiful apartment.

Large dining area

Comfort, tranquility and conciseness - these are the words that can describe the large dining area in the photo, equipped with a modern dining table. Its central role in the interior is emphasized by an exclusive crystal pendant of an unusual oval shape, which well illuminates the tabletop. The cream upholstery of the soft chairs harmonizes perfectly with the wooden legs, and the original stitching on the backs adds piquancy to it.

Mirrors framed in “sunny” baguettes, mirror inserts decorated with facets, exquisite Italian furniture - it’s hard to imagine more suitable details for giving the interior a unique look.

Decide on a style

Look at beautiful interiors, what colors are in your inspiring paintings in the rooms, what furniture you like. You'll be surprised to see how many different styles appeal to you.

You can have a fairly clean and minimalistic room and a more colorful stay, loaded with patterns and materials at the same time.

Once you know what styles you like, learn how to mix them up by looking at blogs, websites and ezines, and following good advice, you'll have harmony in your home.

Draw your idea on paper

When you look at beautiful images of successful interior projects, you end up at a loss: a beautiful lamp, a designer sofa, a vintage sideboard, a modern poster, an unusual wall color - how can it all fit together?

For your little achievements, look for creative tutorials. You'll see that you can learn to make plant vases, children's toys, and even glassware in an artist's workshop. The Internet is a gold mine for this!

The most expensive interior items

We decided to present the ranking of the most expensive sales of decorative and applied art items in three categories: vases, carpets and furniture.

If we take, for example, the auction sale of impressionist paintings, then it is completely normal when one bidder for the lot speaks English, the second speaks Russian, and the third speaks Chinese. But in relation to furniture, vases, carpets, and figurines, regional characteristics are much more pronounced.

The most expensive 600-year-old bronze statue of Buddha in the history of auction sales was bought by a Buddhist. Antique Chinese porcelain of all price categories is being bought en masse by residents of Hong Kong and mainland China. Even the concept of “repatriation of Chinese porcelain” arose. Indeed, what European or American would agree to pay almost $27 million for a cup for washing calligraphy brushes?

If you look at the top five most expensive porcelain and bronze items sold at auction, it is highly likely that all five buyers are Chinese. And at least four of the sellers are not Chinese. The most interesting story is connected with the leader of the rating. A vase found by a simple English pensioner while cleaning the house of her deceased sister was sold at a Bainbridges auction in 2010 for €51.6 million ($84 million). The world media reported on the record. But several months later it turned out that the buyer had not paid a penny, claiming, like Kisa Vorobyaninov, that he was unaware of any auction house fees added to the price. As a result, it took another two years to find someone who would pay - half as much, but they would pay. Even the discount did not deprive this vase of the title of the most expensive Chinese porcelain item in the world. An equally murky story is associated with the vase, which is in second place in the ranking. The media reported about her purchase, a photograph of the buyer holding a vase was published, and Sotheby's posted a winning press release. But on the auction house’s website, in the section on auction results, the vase is missing. There can be two explanations for this: it either was not paid for, or was purchased outside the auction. Sotheby's representatives do not comment on this story.

In 2013, a record was set for the price paid for a carpet. At the same time, the previous record - 2010 - was exceeded more than three times. The buyer who paid $33.8 million for a three-hundred-year-old Persian carpet with a crescent-shaped leaf pattern remains unknown. As for unusual stories, the most interesting is the fate of the carpet, which occupies second place in the rating. It started when a resident of the Bavarian city of Augsburg brought an inherited carpet to a local antique dealer. He said that due to the global crisis there is no demand for carpets and the maximum she can count on is €900. Later, the carpet was sold at a local auction for €20 thousand. It was purchased by a visiting art dealer and later resold at Christie's auction in London for €6.2 million ($10 million). The unfortunate resident of Augsburg has since been suing a local antique dealer, trying to somehow compensate for lost profits.

In the ranking of the most expensive pieces of furniture, which has remained unchanged for several years, regional differences are most noticeable. American mahogany changes from American hands to American hands. A Chinese businessman buys a carved sandalwood throne of the Chinese emperor from a collection collected in China. The most expensive item on the list, the famed cabinet bureau that once graced the Badminton estate of the Dukes of Beaufort, is returning from the US to Europe. However, in America, the owner of the most expensive piece of furniture in history was a native of Grodno, Barbara Johnson-Piasek, who managed to turn from a simple maid on the estate of a rich old man into the owner of a transnational corporation.

Never stop inspiring yourself

Trends and styles change and evolve. This doesn't mean you have to change your home every 6 months, but it's always nice to see new and more recent interior photos. But monitoring the latest beautiful interior styles allows us to always be up to date.

Is interior design expensive?

One of the most popular topics among architects and interior designers is the cost of services, the reason for this or that cost, and is ordering a design project a luxury, an excess, or a vital necessity for the upcoming renovation?

Let me warn you right away that everything described below is my personal opinion based on experience. There are those who think the same way and those who think differently, this is everyone’s personal matter.

I'll start with everything in order.

Cost of services

The fact is that each designer evaluates his work differently, hence the large difference in price for seemingly the same service. The price also depends on whether one person or a studio is working on the project, work experience, the content of the service (what the customer ultimately receives), the quality of the final result and many more additional factors, especially if a whole team is working on the project. Employee salaries, office rent, taxes, etc. Yes, the client is not interested in all this, but you need to understand that, as in any field, there is a difference between income from the project and profit. The price is not taken out of thin air. And don’t forget, we spend our time creating comfort for you. And time for me personally is one of the greatest values.

Another pressing issue is the timing of the project.

If you contact a designer or design studio, you like what we do and how we do it, I assure you, it’s better to wait a little longer. Believe me, you will only benefit and will rather save time and money than vice versa, even taking into account the constant jumps in the ruble.

Is a design project necessary at all?

There is a difference between designer renovation and finishing (even expensive). Strictly speaking, in order to make a good finish, you do not need a designer. After all, no design is required. But, from the customer’s point of view, it is advisable to invite a designer in any case; from work experience I understand that this is really the case. From time to time you have to manage projects where you initially planned to do without a designer, hoping that they would invite familiar craftsmen and they would come up with everything better than any designers and do it in the “best possible way.” This misconception sometimes costs hundreds of thousands of rubles thrown down the drain.

Another thing is that competent designers work according to clear technical specifications, which they draw up and agree with the client. The assignment shows the needs and requests, the approximate budget, so you can immediately determine whether it will be a designer renovation or an expensive finish. This determines what tasks the designer faces. And if a specialist cannot take on your project, there are reasons for that. This doesn't mean he's a bad designer. Experience just teaches you to look at things realistically.

“Why is it so expensive?”, “Does it cost so much for you to draw pictures for me?”

There are probably designers who hear such phrases less and less. But most professionals in Russia, unfortunately, still encounter this.

The fact is that “design” itself is not for everyone. And good design, Design with a capital “D” is something you don’t see very often. The main thing here is to be honest with yourself. The design is based on an interesting idea that is born in the head and transferred to paper. And yes, design is expensive!

Shape of Art Deco by NG Studio

And you yourself think about it. Let's say you are the same person who has a good monthly income and can afford high-quality, first-class design. You buy a plot, or a penthouse, or a finished cottage. You want to invite a worthy specialist who can afford everything that he will design for you. Who, ideally, also lives in a nice apartment with a designer renovation, or better yet, in a cottage outside the city, which he built according to his own design. He understands perfectly what he offers you, right? Under such conditions, there is no doubt about his taste or professionalism; he experienced all the hardships of construction and repair himself. I'm not even talking about cars, watches and trips to the Maldives. Here everyone chooses for themselves what is closer to them.

Is there really at least one person who considers the design profession to be something low-skilled? Just look at how much it costs to study to become a designer or architect?

Now ask yourself the question, “is interior design expensive?” The answer is obvious, isn't it?

Colleagues can, of course, reproach me for not charging a high price for my services. But I don’t have a large staff of employees yet, and many work with such a price list, being not small design studios. Yes, I'm not the richest architect-designer. But for me, the correct image of a successful person in my profession has long been defined. And I have something to strive for. And you?

Additional materials in interior beauty

Authentic materials that show craftsmanship are embroidered fabrics, decorative baskets, rattan, macramé, colorful rugs: we must take crafted materials that will bring real character to the interior.

The whole point of this project was to eliminate the traffic that is still very common in old apartments. This space, thus open in the central part of the apartment, offered new life. A non-standard approach should be used.

Corridors and closets have not been in fashion for a long time. We took advantage of the intersection effect to optimize light flows in the center of the apartment and create a space that allows access to different areas of the apartment (living room, dining room, bedroom).

Designer tips for choosing flooring for an expensive apartment

As for the flooring in expensive apartments, there is not much variety here. Basically it's a classic. Expensive piece parquet in the living rooms, marble in the kitchen and bathroom, porcelain tiles in the hall. Undoubtedly, marble is a beautiful material. But I don't really like marble, especially in the kitchen. It is soft enough and absorbs everything. It needs to be polished and constantly maintained. We install marble in expensive houses; there is a different way of life, where they take special care of the surface. In the last project we completed, we used coral-colored marble. The interior features a combination of brown, coral and beige colors. In the new project we will use natural turquoise marble. Yes, imagine, there is such a thing.

The entire interior will be made in Art Deco style, the main color scheme will be blue and turquoise. And such a stone will look great here. Marble will be on the floor in the kitchen and bathroom. In addition to the marble floor, the walls and podium under the bathtub will be marble in the bathroom. There will also be marble mosaics from the Italian company Sicis. If necessary, we can change the size of the mosaic or the color scheme of the proposed options. Mosaic “rugs” and sockets look good in bathrooms, hallways, and swimming pools.

In one of our recent projects, we were able to implement an interesting idea. The first floor is strictly classic: marble, parquet. But the second one is made in a “game” style. The entire floor was designed to imitate an Italian street. Entrances to the rooms were decorated like entrances to houses: porticos above the entrance doors, mosaic rugs in front of the doors. Small fountain. Signs above each door, like street house numbers. A sign with the name “streets”. The entire “street” is lined with Italian mosaics. The owner was extremely pleased. And it was interesting for us to do this project.

In the next project, slate was installed on the kitchen floor. Slate looks very beautiful, it contains natural inclusions that sparkle in the sun. In addition to the kitchen, in this project there will also be slate in the hall.

Most of all I love practical materials, porcelain stoneware, for example. It can be actively used: you can spill liquid on it, drop various objects on the floor - nothing will happen to it. Today there is a wide selection of porcelain stoneware in colors and textures, so you can choose any color, depending on the room.

Of course, it cannot do without classic parquet. In modern interiors, we use parquet boards, sometimes deliberately aged or with emphasized texture. One of the completed projects is a European-style wooden house. Wood inside and outside. The floor is stained and aged parquet boards. The floor in the kitchen was also made to look like wood. Only based on functionality, they installed porcelain tiles with a wood texture.

When choosing parquet, we try not to use soft wood. We use proven classics - oak, beech, mahogany, teak, rosewood, merbau. The choice is quite large. Any tree can be tinted. Recently we designed a bedroom in an oriental style. We decided to make the floors from bamboo. It is quite hard and quite suitable for the bedroom.

Many foreigners appeared among the customers. They have a different taste from ours, they are more practical, more reserved. The Russian customer prefers everything bright, shiny, and loves kitsch. However, in our projects we prefer plain floors. We use sockets extremely rarely, mainly at the request of the customer.

We use different accessories. Sometimes we make skirting boards to match the color of the walls, sometimes to match the color of the floor. We use carpet only in lightly used areas: cinema hall, billiard room, card room, etc. We do not recommend using carpet in a nursery or bedroom, because after two or three years the carpet loses its attractive appearance and it becomes necessary to re-cover it.

It is better to use carpets, including carpets cut from the same carpet. If necessary, they can be rolled up and are easier to clean.

In public interiors we also try to use natural materials: porcelain stoneware, parquet boards. I am biased towards laminate; I don’t like its loud sound. I agree, its advantages are quick assembly and low cost. However, if I have the opportunity to choose, I give preference to linoleum. It’s pleasant to walk on, and if you put it on top of the insulation, it becomes warm and soft.”

Porcelain stoneware is considered an interesting and promising material. This is a natural and perceptually warm material. In addition, it is wear-resistant. By the way, you can always install a “warm floor” under such a coating.

The projects of architect Evgenia Korobtseva are distinguished by their courage and originality. When it comes to flooring, Evgenia also gives preference to natural materials. Evgeniya believes that parquet boards with a pronounced texture look very impressive. Both local and exotic wood species fit perfectly into the interior: wenge, Brazil walnut, merbau.

“I prefer to take a ready-made color,” says Evgenia Korobtseva. – On the other hand, wood can always be stained during the installation stage. However, it is better to use industrially tinted wood. Ethnic interiors are still in fashion. I love the combination of colors in parquet, and I try not to make the pattern too small.”

Interestingly, in one of the projects in the living room and kitchen, Evgenia made a polymer self-leveling floor. The architect considers the fact that such floors are used only in industrial premises to be an absurd stereotype. The floor turned out to be a neutral, calm color, smooth and shiny. A shiny floor expands the space and makes the room appear larger. Of course, the material for self-leveling flooring used in residential premises is more environmentally friendly than that used in garages and other utility rooms. It can be of any color and with any filler.

Just like Arkady Ivashkin, Evgenia Korobtseva prefers porcelain stoneware. This is a beautiful, textured multi-color material. In their projects, the studio's architects use a synthesis of various materials: wood, metal, bronze textured plates, slate, casting, embossing.

Our next expert, Mikhail Zaslavsky, also focuses on the use of natural materials: wood, porcelain stoneware. Porcelain tiles are good everywhere: in the hallway, in the living room, in the kitchen.

The front area can be highlighted with a pattern. A porcelain stoneware floor will look great in the living room of a country house or in the fireplace room. A porcelain stoneware floor that imitates a parquet board will be especially harmonious. There are designs that imitate the texture of wood so much that it is impossible to distinguish it from natural wood. This flooring is more convenient to use, less susceptible to wear and tear, and more durable.

Porcelain stoneware flooring has a certain charm that is not conveyed by wood. Unlike parquet boards, you can cut any piece from the tile. If you need a complex pattern on the floor, then piece parquet will do, but it is much more expensive than other materials. To achieve a stronger visual effect, you can synthesize different stone textures.

“For example, in the hallway area we alternated polished granite with matte granite - it turned out very beautiful,” says Mikhail. – The light falls on the polished surface of the floor, glares, sparkles, matte inserts enhance this effect.

Wood is also a good material. Indeed, the wood that is traditional for our area of residence is good: oak, beech, walnut, maple, ash, cherry. It carries energy close to us. Although we also work with exotics. The choice of floor color depends on the task at hand. Both light and dark colors are good. It would be especially wise to choose furniture that contrasts in color. We use classic interior design techniques: to “link” the floor and ceiling into a single whole, we repeat the ceiling rosette on the floor.

We use laminate in low-budget projects; it is an affordable material. We use classic collections that imitate wood. We use linoleum in public interiors. Among private customers, the stereotype of Soviet apartments with linoleum covering is still strong. Nevertheless, linoleum can be cut and interesting designs can be laid out. We use carpet quite narrowly: in offices, cinemas, boudoirs.”

When decorating the floor, architects use skirting boards that contrast with the floor. Often matching the color of the door slopes. This helps to emphasize the graphic nature and make the interior look seamless. It turns out effectively if you use materials of different textures. In one of the projects, the floor in the living room was parquet, and the area under the dining table was a “carpet” made of ceramic tiles.

Olga Tumakova has her own opinion about the fashion for flooring. She believes that there is no obvious fashion for coatings. Some time ago there was a trend towards the active use of solid floorboards. In her practice, Olga is guided not by what initially determines the type of coating, but by the specific task at hand. According to this “image” the type of coating is determined. For example, the architect worked with a “Mexican” apartment, and to maintain a unified style, tiles were laid on the floor in the bedroom. The tiles also went into the living room. The main thing is to convey the “mood” of the interior.

Olga agrees that today tiles are actively used in interiors. She has great potential. The highlight of the project can be unexpected combinations that emphasize the individuality of the room. Contrasts are always interesting and advantageous: combining complex parquet with “bare” concrete walls.

Castle style - here again, porcelain stoneware is harmonious. But in the bedroom, where it was necessary to obtain the texture of a green meadow, long-pile green carpet was used. The result was such green soft grass, almost like natural grass.

The tiles that imitate parquet look interesting. You can also lay out various patterns with tiles. This turns out to be much cheaper than using piece parquet.

Black and white contrast is always at the peak of popularity. One of the latest projects combined snow-white dining room furniture, “cherry” walls and contrasting black and white tiles on the floor. This interior looks very stylish. The result is a shiny floor, lacquered furniture on it: everything shines and sparkles.

Sometimes the choice of covering changes at the request of the customer: at first they planned a low-pile carpet, but the client said that tiles would be more convenient for him. Thus, Olga imitated carpet in color in this interior; a more complex pattern was laid out from tiles.

The finished project is a complex of embodied ideas of the architect and the client. Olga emphasizes: “Some create a unique environment, and some create a beautiful environment. It is always necessary to be able to replace one material with another.

The final result depends on the situation, sometimes you are creating an artistic environment, and it is impossible to use cheap material or a substitute for the material, everything must be real. And sometimes, the project requires carpeting, and this is inconvenient for the client. We have to look for a replacement.”

Modern flooring technologies make life easier for architects. A variety of surface textures and color palettes provide ample opportunities for the implementation of ideas. If a new material appears on the market, it immediately becomes interesting, soars to the peak of fashion, and everyone actively starts working with it.

Here you need to know a sense of proportion and be able to guess trends. At a minimum, the created interior should be interesting and relevant for at least two seasons. It shouldn’t happen that during the creation of the interior it suddenly became unfashionable and irrelevant. The designer must anticipate and feel fashion. As we mentioned above, the contrast of black and white always looks advantageous. However, here too you can apply a lot of options.

The black and white pattern on the floor can be made of carpet tiles, and the ceramic tiles can be glossy or matte, marble or rough slate. Everything is subordinated to a specific task. The use of unexpected textures is interesting; it gives a unique charm to the interior. Feel free to lay out the entire floor with mats in an expensive interior. Of course, these mats must be supported by something else in the interior, be it furniture or lamps. They should not look random, everything should be “connected”.

An architect must have an absolutely clear idea of what kind of interior he is building, and why he is using this or that material. Contrast is always fashionable and impressive, for example, a marble floor covered with skins. The floor in a large house can be anything: metal or stone, wood or carpet.

“In the “Mexican” apartment, which we already talked about, we made a stone floor,” says Olga. “We made it dark.” We wanted a feeling of power, space, heat, sun. This floor went perfectly with the orange walls.

All this complemented each other and “drew” the general mood of the intended interior. The material used for the floor was large, chocolate-colored natural stone slabs with a strong texture.”

The architect emphasizes that the current trend in flooring is tiles. Tiles that imitate parquet, and the parquet is complex, old, grated, with inlay, with a pattern of ancient floors.
