How to choose the right size for a bathroom vanity

Most bathrooms are modest in size, so it is important to make efficient use of the available space when decorating them. Models of various sizes are available for sale - from miniature bedside tables with dimensions of about 20x40 cm (length and width) to roomy models with dimensions of about 50x120 cm. In order for the selected model to fit ideally into the space allocated for it, you must first measure its parameters and take into account where pipes will be placed

When choosing a bedside table with many shelves and drawers, it is important to think about its internal arrangement so that the pipes coming from the wall do not experience external loads.

Types of kitchen cabinet designs for washing dishes

Speaking about cabinets for the kitchen, there are several win-win options. The owner’s choice should be based on ergonomics and the design concept of the room. Moreover, before purchasing a ready-made module, you must prepare all the plumbing for it.

Floor-mounted vanity units

The difference between such a kitchen sink with a cabinet is the presence of a wide countertop.

Corner

A corner kitchen cabinet under a sink is an ideal option for those who want to combine a sink with a work surface. In fact, it can be either a separate table in the form of a bar or an adjacent part next to the oven surface.

Floor-mounted vanity units

Even such a table can be equipped with various elements for storing dishes, vegetables or other items.

This type of design is distinguished by the fact that it can accommodate a huge amount of kitchen utensils inside. Many furniture manufacturers initially take as a basis the presence of several levels, where the housewife can place either a dishwasher or organize a place to store cutlery.

Straight

A straight cabinet is more of a classic. If the room is large and the owner can afford to install a sink in the middle of the module, then this option should not be abandoned.

It is considered optimal for using the internal space.

The main feature is that today you can choose absolutely any design. In this case, the choice of the future owner is not limited.

Materials used, appearance of the bathroom sink

The more well-known material used in the manufacture of sinks is earthenware or porcelain. It is possible to purchase a bathroom sink made from porcelain more expensive than from earthenware. But its surface will be harder and smoother. Earthenware is used in the production of simple sinks, the surface of which is covered with a special coating to prevent small scratches and chips.

You can also purchase a sink with a bathroom cabinet made of stainless steel. This type of product is stronger and more durable than clay products. Without taking this into account, steel on the exterior looks quite fashionable. But marble sinks for the bathroom are considered more elite and, accordingly, their prices are higher. They need special care and maintenance of their original appearance. As for glass sinks, this system will truly add authenticity to the bathroom exterior. This material is less common as a base for sinks, but it is considered one of the most elegant materials. In the end, the choice is, of course, yours.

Bathroom sinks with cabinet

Today, a washbasin with a bathroom cabinet is in incredible demand and this is not at all surprising, since this accessory is not only easy to use, but also fits harmoniously into any interior design.

Bathroom sinks with cabinet

Bathroom cabinets are a fairly effective method for immediately solving a number of both design and home issues. For example, this type of furniture includes a number of spacious shelves and drawers, in which you can put everything important for hygiene and other related items. The washbasin cabinets also have a comfortable countertop, which will allow you to sit comfortably and successfully during procedures.

It is necessary to take into account that this furniture will provide the room with neatness. And the price will amaze you and delight you with its functionality. Modern high-quality washbasins are a harmonious interweaving of shape, color and material. The most famous material from which washbasins are made is ceramics. However, sinks made of metal, glass and marble have become increasingly popular lately. The system of all sinks is quite ordinary - a sink (console), as well as a faucet (or a mixing system). Often, a sink or console sink is “continued” by a so-called pedestal or cabinet that hides communication pipes.

Brief characteristics and advantages of models, tips for choosing

The main advantages of hanging cabinets include the following indicators:

  • a hanging cabinet not only saves free space, but also visually increases the size of the bathroom;
  • easy access to the space under the cabinet. This makes the cleaning process easier and allows you to quickly detect possible leaks. There can be leaks under side cabinets for a long time, which can result in extremely unpleasant damage to building elements. As a result, there is a need for complex and expensive repairs;
  • Due to optimal air circulation, the service life of furniture is significantly increased. All types of cabinets are made from natural lumber or various types of boards using wood chips. Wood always reacts very negatively to prolonged contact with water; if we add to this the lack of ventilation, then the life of the furniture is significantly reduced;
  • a wide selection of design solutions allows you to decorate the bathroom in any style;
  • functionality. Hanging cabinets hide utility networks, and the appearance of the room is significantly improved. In addition, there are additional opportunities for placing various bathroom accessories.

There is also a drawback to such furniture, it is associated with the method of fixation. Hanging cabinets are not recommended to be installed on plasterboards, various types of lining and other finishing materials with low physical strength. The best option for finishing the walls of a room is ceramic tiles on a concrete or brick base.

What to look for when choosing a vanity unit

Most wall-hung cabinets are sold complete with sinks, but some exclusive options can be installed under already mounted wall-mounted washbasins

When choosing, pay close attention to the workmanship. Domestic manufacturers use imported fittings, which increases the service life of furniture

But the manufacturing of the elements itself often causes legitimate consumer complaints. We do not recommend purchasing the cheapest options; it is better to stay in the middle price range. If possible, it is recommended to buy quality products from foreign companies.

How to make a cabinet with your own hands ↑

It is not necessary to buy ready-made furniture; you can make a cabinet for a washbasin in the bathroom with your own hands, satisfying any individual needs. For spacious and small rooms for hygiene procedures, you can make a spacious product with any size, shape, color and internal equipment. Having mastered the basic basics of carpentry, it will not be difficult to make a practical support for a sink with shelves and doors.

Preparing parts for the frame ↑

Having chosen a cabinet design that ideally matches the size of the washbasin bowl, you need to prepare blanks for creating parts. Solid wood, chipboard and MDF are materials that are easy to cut and process. The back wall can be made of plywood sheet.

Scheme of the sink cabinet

Guided by the diagram of the sink cabinet with the specified parameters, it is necessary to cut out parts from chipboards to create the frame:

  • two side walls;
  • back wall;
  • lower part of the frame;
  • two doors;
  • table top;
  • shelves.

It is recommended to make a “pattern” for the tabletop

Assembly and internal equipment ↑

Assembly should begin by connecting the table top to the side parts. You must first cut an opening in the countertop to install the sink. The dimensions of the sink and the bathroom cabinet must perfectly match, since the countertop acts as the main support for the washbasin bowl. After fixing the tabletop with the side walls, you need to install the lower part of the structure and the back wall. To install shelves, you must install any fasteners:

  • wooden support bars;
  • wooden pins;
  • metal corners;
  • brackets.

To install the doors, you need to screw the awnings to the side walls. For smooth, silent closing of doors, it is advisable to use awnings with closers. Door handles should be selected from a range of high-quality fittings. To install supports, you should select legs with the ability to adjust the height of the cabinet, which will make it easier to install furniture on an uneven floor.

Interior fittings of vanity unit with sink

The interior equipment of the furniture should act as a spacious storage system for various things: towels, shaving accessories and other body care products. A cabinet with a sink can be equipped with numerous shelves, drawers, laundry baskets and other ergonomic details that allow you to conveniently place different things.

The construction of another model is discussed in the video.

Vanity cabinet advantages

The reality is that bathrooms in our houses and apartments are very modest in size, which complicates the process of selecting attributes and furniture. The best option for a small bathroom would be a cabinet with shelves, as well as a storage system of drawers, in which it is very convenient to keep small items and personal hygiene products.

Floor-mounted vanity units
Even small cabinets under the sink can be quite spacious

But besides this, a number of other advantages can be listed:

  • the cabinet allows you to significantly save useful space in the room while functionally using the space under the sink;
  • in the cabinet you can hide unsightly plumbing communications;
  • in the production of cabinets, materials that are resistant to moisture are used, which guarantees long-term operation of the product;
  • is a decorative element of the interior.

Floor-mounted vanity unitsBeautiful furniture will decorate even the simplest bathroom
. Manufacturers offer a huge range of products, so choosing an option that suits the interior style of the bathroom and your preferences will not be difficult.
You can always order an individual product according to your sizes if you don’t find a suitable one in the store.

How to choose the right washbasin with cabinet for the bathroom

When choosing bathroom furniture, you should be guided by certain requirements. Products must be functional, comfortable and take up little space, which is especially important for small spaces. First of all, you should decide on the installation location of the product. The type, dimensions and method of installation of the product will depend on this. Manufacturers produce three types of washbasin with cabinet: floor-mounted, wall-hung and corner.

The optimal solution would be to buy a cabinet under the sink, which will save space and hide some of the plumbing

For very small rooms it is advisable to install corner models. If the room has a heated floor, it is better to choose a floor product with legs to ensure proper ventilation under the furniture.

Bathroom furniture should harmoniously fit into the chosen interior style of the room. If all the details of the room are decorated in a soft design with streamlined outlines, then a cabinet with sharp corners will look out of place. If the bathtub is decorated in a classic style, then furniture made in restrained minimalism will be unacceptable. The piece of furniture should be in harmony with the interior of the room not only in style, but also in color.

Helpful advice! The colorful coating should lie flat on the surface without visible smudges.

You should approach the selection of bath fittings wisely. It is better to choose handles, legs and hinges made of chrome-plated material, since furniture with gold-plated or plastic chrome-plated fittings will lose its original appearance within a few months.

Next, we should consider the functionality of the furniture, which largely depends on the personal preferences of the owner. An 80 cm cabinet with a bath sink and a laundry basket will look unusual and interesting. This functional and spacious design allows you to significantly save space in the room.

First of all, when choosing a suitable sink with a cabinet, it is important to proceed from the requirements for the functionality of such a device

To be able to adapt the shelves to the height of household chemicals, you should choose cabinet models that have the ability to adjust the height of the shelves. You can also install a mobile cabinet on wheels in the bathroom, which can be moved to different places. However, in this case, the sink should be mounted separately and not be built into the overall furniture structure.

Practical advice

When installing various plumbing fixtures and equipment, the same problem can be solved in several ways. Which one is better is up to you to decide. We give only professional advice from masters, but there is no consensus among them.

Options for sealing a sink with a wall

  1. Silicone is applied on the outside around the perimeter of the sink. The traditional method is used in most cases. Disadvantages - low-quality material peels off over time, dirt gets into the gap between it and the sink and becomes very noticeable. You have to periodically remove the old silicone and apply new one. After a year or two, black spots appear on all types of silicone, even on the most expensive ones with antiseptic additives. In addition, over time, it changes its original color, becomes dull, and various stains appear on the surface. It is impossible to eliminate this drawback by cleaning or washing; you have to completely remove the old silicone and apply new one.
  1. Silicone is applied around the perimeter of the sink from the back side until it is fixed to the wall. The thickness of the layer and the location of its application are selected in such a way that after pressing against the wall, excess does not appear on the surface. The disadvantage is that over time the cracks have to be cleaned of dirt.
  2. Using rubber seals for windows and doors. They have glue on one side, a thickness of approximately 5 mm, and are characterized by high elasticity and long service life. The seals are carefully glued around the perimeter on the back side of the sink before installation, and after pressing they ensure a complete tight fit. Many professional plumbers consider this sealing method to be the most optimal. Nothing peels off, accumulated dirt can be easily removed if necessary, and the service life of the seals is practically unlimited.

Eliminating the gap between the cabinet and the sink

Some washbasins do not have a lip over the side surfaces of the hanging cabinet; water can get into the ends. Responsible manufacturers complete their products with special self-adhesive tape; it is glued before installation on the sink cabinet and closes the cracks. Unfortunately, for various reasons, the thickness of the tape is not enough to compensate for all the gaps.

It is recommended to use rubber window sealant instead of tape, the same as we recommended above. It is glued around the perimeter of the cabinet, after which the sink is put in place.

Adhesive sealant

The sealing is complete, the possibility of water ingress is completely eliminated. It is not recommended to use silicone sealant for the same reasons. The disadvantage of this method is that there is no additional fixation of the sink to the bathroom. Factory tapes hold the structures together quite firmly, the cabinet and sink work as a single unit.

Corner and two-door models

A corner bedside table with a sink for a bathroom is considered an excellent option when arranging small spaces, in which the successful use of every free corner is extremely important. Advantages of corner models:

Advantages of corner models:

  • You can put a bedside table in the corner, and place a mirror or a small wall cabinet on top.

    Likewise, a universal system appears in a previously unused corner, a lot of free space is created in the very center of the room, and the room becomes less cluttered.

  • Corner variations have more internal space than similar widths with right angles, and therefore make it possible to place more objects.
  • You can place a fairly free sink in the corner. For example, in the middle of the wall of a small room with a bathroom there is room for a bathtub cabinet with a 55 cm sink; there is not enough space to install a larger model.
    Plus the corner bedside table

    for a bath with a 90 cm sink, it takes up only 60 cm on any wall and will make hygiene procedures more convenient.

If the living space has a combined bathroom, then in most cases any of the corners is occupied by: a bathtub or shower stall, toilet, or washing machine.

In this option, we can recommend a small rectangular two-door option.

Thanks to its own shape, this model will make it possible to place a lot of objects and will not protrude in the center of the room.

Designs of this type of decent size can also be used in large rooms, because they make it possible to install sinks that are up to one and a half meters wide or even double.

Features of placing a kitchen sink in a set

Speaking about the features of a kitchen sink cabinet, we can highlight not only its shape, but also a number of other nuances. Among them, the following can be distinguished separately.

  1. Surface material. Most often, this is a standard countertop that occupies the entire working perimeter of the kitchen. If it is not of sufficient quality, after the first stagnation of water, it will swell and lose its appearance.
  2. Construction type. If the old models served only the function of aesthetics, today the cabinet can accommodate a large number of gadgets.

Floor-mounted vanity units

A sink with a kitchen cabinet not only ensures ease of use of the sink for its intended purpose, but also guarantees the creation of an attractive and holistic interior.

Due to the nature of small kitchens, it is very difficult to select modules so that they take up little space but remain spacious. Therefore, a modern sink cabinet should fit organically into any space.

Floor-mounted vanity units

Conventional designs that are not equipped with cabinets are considered not very beautiful, so they are difficult to fit into the interior of the kitchen.

Shape and size

Vanity cabinets in the bathroom have an almost unlimited choice of shapes and sizes; in addition, more demanding customers can order a custom-made cabinet.

Wardrobes up to 80 cm wide are available in a wide range, but larger ones can be found. The depth generally ranges from 30 to 50 cm.

The shape of the sink cabinet can be:

When choosing which form to choose, you need to be guided by the size of the bathroom and the place where it will be located in the future. If this piece of furniture will be in a large and spacious bathroom, the size has no restrictions. The same goes for form. If the room is small and every centimeter is important, a corner stand under the bathroom sink is best. This form takes up the least space and looks the best without visually cluttering the space.

In addition, when choosing a cabinet for the bathroom, you need to immediately think about what shape and size of sink it will be installed with. In the case where the sink is provided with a wide one, in which there is a table, buy furniture for it that is wide with a central partition and additional façade reinforcements.

When choosing a cabinet with a built-in sink, the width of the sink itself is not important, the main thing is that it is enough to cut a hole.

Types of cabinets with sinks

Bedside tables intended for the bathroom are distinguished by their installation method. According to this rule, the following different options can be distinguished: on legs, hanging systems, with a plinth.

A bedside table with a sink for a claw-foot bath is considered a very convenient option.

Pros:

comfortable cleaning - it is very easy to remove accumulated dirt under it; the gap between the floor and the lower part of the product is ventilated, which is important in conditions of high humidity: water does not collect below, and there are no conditions for the proliferation of harmful microorganisms; in fact, a similar version of the system is better suited if there is heated floors, since it does not come into direct contact with them.

Floor-mounted vanity units

When purchasing, you should make sure that the legs have special silicone pads that prevent damage to the tiles.

The legs must be made of strong material that is resistant to external damage.

When installing models with legs, it is recommended to additionally attach them to the wall, especially if there are small children in the house.

A wall-mounted bedside table with a sink in the room where the bathroom is located is an excellent option for a small area.

Designs of this type look light and airy; they do not take up free space in the living area and visually make it larger.

Often similar models stand out due to their fashionable and new design.

Since these cabinets are not in contact with the floor, they also help to clean the room faster and prevent water from collecting.

Wall-mounted furniture is often used if plumbing ducts run underneath, partially blocking access to the floor.

Due to the lack of support on the floor and mounting only to the wall, there is a huge risk that the entire system may fall.

And therefore it is better to select small products with a small sink, made of high-quality materials, with a good connection of parts.

Designs with a base are the most popular option, although also the least successful. Their important disadvantage is the accumulation of water, which leads to the development and gradual destruction of the base of pathogenic microflora.

Varieties

Next, we will tell you which bathroom vanity cabinets are available today.

Hanging

This sink cabinet does not have supporting legs, but is hung on special fastenings (brackets) in the wall. The undoubted advantage of this design is its visual “weightlessness”, as well as the ease of cleaning the floor underneath it. However, keep in mind that the wall for mounting must be very strong in order to withstand the load of hanging furniture.

Corner

The dimensions of the vanity cabinet in the bathroom, which is installed in the corner together with the washbasin, allows you to save useful space even in the smallest room. It can be either with or without doors - the latter option adds space and does not clutter up the corner. There are several installation methods - it can be hung on brackets, placed on legs, on the floor or plinth.

Floor-standing

In this case, the cabinet under the washbasin in the bathroom is placed entirely on the floor. Therefore, choose high-quality material for furniture, otherwise its bottom will quickly deteriorate under the influence of moisture. We'll talk more about materials, but a little later.

On legs

Such bathroom cabinets under the sink are installed on legs that can be adjusted in height and made of various materials. Metal legs should have rubberized or silicone gaskets so as not to damage the floor covering.

Furniture with legs can be installed anywhere - this is one of its main advantages. You can also easily wash the floor underneath it, and the water will not come into contact with the bottom of the structure.

On the plinth

A sink with a bathroom cabinet looks more stylish and expensive if it has a base in its design. This is a foundation stand that hides the space under the product. In the form of a plinth, special strips can be presented that cover the legs of the furniture.

Installation and configuration features

Floor-mounted vanity units

  • On legs. Such models are extremely easy to install and unpretentious in maintenance - the floor underneath is easy to clean, and the space between the floor and the bottom of the cabinet ensures free air circulation. Models with legs can withstand significant loads, and in the event of a small flood, the main structure of the cabinet remains protected from water. They come in various variations - with drawers, shelves, additional modules, laundry baskets and other elements.
  • Suspended modules. They are attached to the wall at the desired height and do not come into contact with the floor, which greatly simplifies cleaning and eliminates the risk of moisture accumulation, the appearance of fungus and unpleasant odors. Due to the absence of supporting elements, hanging bedside tables can visually enlarge the space and give the decor a modern look. Hanging cabinets are especially relevant in situations where plumbing ducts are located near the floor and do not allow the installation of a floor-standing model, and pipes come out of the wall, and it is quite reliable.
  • With a base. Such designs are easy to install - just assemble the box and take care of its stability. But due to the close contact of the base with the floor, contact with moisture is inevitable, and gradually the furniture begins to deteriorate.

Corner cabinets have a convenient configuration. They are compact, have an original appearance, help to rationally use space and turn a corner into a functional element of the interior. Such models are especially in demand in small bathrooms. They exquisitely complement the interior, make good use of the corner area and contain many useful little things.

Tips for choosing a bathroom vanity

If the plumbing has streamlined contours, rectangular furniture will not look appropriate. It is necessary to stick to one image in the design of the room. You cannot combine opposite directions, for example, classicism and high-tech.

You should also choose furniture of similar colors and materials that will match the color of the plumbing fixtures and tiles.

In order to be sure that there are no damages invisible to the eye, you need to knock on the walls: if the sound is clear, you can courageously purchase the model you like; a dry, cracked sound indicates a violation of the integrity of the product.

Floor-mounted vanity units

The bedside table must correspond to the size of the room in which it is located.

When purchasing, look at the practicality of the product, how comfortably the shelves are placed, and whether there are drawers that can be pulled out.

There is no need to select a bedside table with a decent number of low shelves, since bottles of shower gels, shampoos, and also containers with household chemicals will not fit into it.

It’s better to look at products in which the height of the shelves can be adjusted with your own hands.

If space allows, you can choose a system with a built-in basket for dirty laundry - in this option you will hide all the ugly little things from prying eyes.

If you don't have enough time for frequent cleaning, you need to select furniture with a small number of open surfaces where dust and moisture can collect.

Standard sizes of a cabinet with a washbasin in a bathroom

It is usually believed that for ease of use of a sink, its width should be no less than fifty centimeters. Washbasins of smaller width are usually placed in the bathroom and are not used for the bathroom. Large sinks are welcome, but their width is calculated based on the size of the room. Agree, a washbasin one meter wide will look ridiculous in a standard bathroom.

The width of the sink cabinet, as a rule, is determined by the manufacturer himself and is made to fit the standard bowl size or a little narrower, it all depends on the design of the model. If you choose a double sink, then the determining factor is the size between the centers of the bowls. It should not exceed ninety centimeters.

The easiest way to check the depth of the cabinet and sink is to stand close to the wall of the cabinet or sink and extend your arm. If the opposite edge ends in the middle of your palm or fingertips, then the product fits perfectly in the given size. The best indicator of depth is considered to be from forty-eight to sixty-one centimeters.

The height of the cabinet should be given special attention. Typically, manufacturers produce this furniture with a standard height of 800 to 850 millimeters

Doctors believe that for ease of use, the height of the washbasin for men should be from 94 to 109 centimeters, and for women - from 81 to 92. If you calculate the average value, it turns out that the optimal height of the cabinet is from 86 to 93 centimeters. This is ideal.

If there is a child in the house, a small stand is needed so that he can wash himself comfortably. After all, you won’t change the height of the sink cabinet every year, given that the baby is growing.

Thus, we note that the standard and most universal dimensions of a bathroom sink cabinet are:

  • width. Not less than 50, but not more than 60 centimeters;
  • height. From 86 to 93 centimeters;
  • depth. No more than 61, but not less than 48 centimeters.

Standard sizes

The standard size of the cabinet is determined in accordance with the size of the sink installed in the kitchen and the sink used in the bathroom.

Traditional kitchen cabinet with countertop sink

The design, shape and dimensions of the cabinet used to install a kitchen sink depend on its location (straight, corner), the configuration of the kitchen unit and the dimensions of the sink used. Nevertheless, there are basic, standard dimensions for this piece of furniture installed in the kitchen. They are expressed in the following meanings:

  • Width – 90.0 – 120.0 cm;
  • Height – 85.0 – 95.0 cm;
  • Depth – 50.0 – 65.0 cm.

A straight cabinet is a classic version of furniture of this type. This design may vary in width, depending on the type and dimensions of the sink.

The advantages of furniture of this type are:

  1. Possibility of finishing with various types of materials to give the product an attractive appearance.
  2. Functionality - achieved by arranging the interior space, by installing shelves and drawers of various designs.
  3. Practicality and ease of use are ensured by the use of high-quality finishing materials and the ability to approach the cabinet in a wide spatial range.

The corner cabinet is also widely used when arranging the kitchen space. Corner models come in trapezoidal and L-shaped. This shape is more ergonomic than a straight design, so it is often used in small kitchens.

For the bathroom

Floor cabinet with sink Triton – Juneau 60 cm wide

When using a cabinet to install a sink in a bathroom, the standard dimensions are:

  • Width – 50.0 – 60.0 cm;
  • Height – 86.0 – 93.0 cm;
  • Depth – 48.0 – 61.0 cm.

These dimensions are determined based on the ease of use of the sink by an adult of average height and regardless of his gender.

In order to determine how correctly the depth of a given piece of furniture has been chosen, you can use the following method: when the person’s body is positioned close to the outer wall of the cabinet, the tips of his fingers should reach its opposite edge - this arrangement indicates that the size has been chosen correctly.

The width may vary slightly, because... The industry produces various models of sinks that differ in bowl size, but as a rule, these values correspond to the above.

Material of manufacture

Considering that the cabinet under the bathroom sink must withstand constant exposure to moisture and mechanical stress, the material from which it is made must be of sufficient quality. Otherwise, the bedside table will not last long.

Of course, there are practically no restrictions on the materials from which this piece of furniture is made. If desired, it can be metal, glass, marble, natural wood and much more. However, widespread consumer needs force us to produce bathroom sink cabinets from more affordable materials. As a rule, cabinets made of MDF and chipboard are available for sale.

    MDF is a more expensive and high-quality material. Initially, it is treated with special moisture-resistant agents, which will prevent further moisture absorption. Then the surface is covered with veneer, followed by a layer of varnish or moisture-resistant enamel. If the choice falls on an MDF cabinet, the buyer is guaranteed to receive a very high-quality product with a fairly long service life.

It is worth paying special attention to the material of the fittings used. Any metal used in bathroom furniture must be stainless, hard, and of acceptable thickness.

Thus, the hinges for the sink cabinet are made of stainless steel and high-quality plastic, including bolts and screws. If cheaper and low-quality metal is used in production, such fittings will break very quickly.
