Velor curtains for hotels

Velvet Information

The production of velvet fabric began in the sixth century. The birthplace of velvet is China. There, by the way, the fabric was considered to be a type of silk. For a long time, Chinese craftsmen did not reveal the secret of its production. Therefore, luxurious (and very expensive) velvet decorated the interiors of only rich people. This fabric was used to create delightful draperies in the chambers of the nobility and officials. Velvet appeared in Russia only in the 17th century.

Varieties of velvet

The technology for producing velvet fabric is extremely difficult. It is assumed that several types of threads and fabric bases will be used to create a delicate pile. Material with a pile no longer than eight millimeters is called plush, longer - artificial fur. The type of velvet depends on what fabric base was used. What types of velvet exist?

This:

  1. Velveteen. The pile of this material forms a special pattern - a rib. Designers recommend using this type of velvet to visually increase the height of ceilings in a room or space.
  2. Velours. For some reason, velor is considered to be low-quality velvet. In fact, this is a very beautiful and practical material.
  3. Panne. This is the name of shiny fabric with an embossed pattern.
  4. Velvet devore. This type of velvet is distinguished by a unique production technology. Usually, the pile is applied to a ready-made base; from velvet devore, excess fibers are etched out using chemicals.

Today you can find embossed velvet, printed velvet, moire velvet and even velvet with embroidery and various prints.

Velvet for curtains and its types

This type of material got its name because of the thick short pile located on the front side. Initially, this version of the fabric was made from a material such as silk, but today there are many artificially created products that form similar fibers. Such materials can be pre-set with the necessary decorative and practical qualities. The pleasant and original appearance of velvet curtains is achieved through individual weaving of threads, which are used to create the base, as well as a pleasant-to-touch pile. Modern curtains made from similar fabrics can be made in various colors with additional decorative coating.

To create attractive curtains from such material, the following products are most often used:

  • Velveteen. This type of fabric has a certain feature, namely: the pile is formed in a specific way, due to which an original pattern appears, made in the form of an attractive rib. Most often, cotton is used to make such fabrics. When using such curtains, it is important to take into account the specificity of the pattern, which can disguise the lowness of the ceiling, as well as the small dimensions of the room.

  • Velours. Very often, you can find a description of such material as low-quality velvet, where rare fibers are found. In practice, this is not the case: canvases made of high-quality velor look very rich, and, at the same time, such curtains are quite expensive.

  • Panne. In this case, fabrics with shine are used, while canvases made from such material have a pronounced embossed pattern.

  • Velvet devore. This type of material is not so common, however, canvases made from this material are smooth and translucent. In this case, all fibers are removed chemically in order to achieve the best smoothness of the canvases, while creating an attractive pattern.

If you decide to decorate a window opening in a room using velvet fabric, you should take into account all its features, characteristics and practical properties, otherwise there is a risk of not achieving the desired result, since even such a luxurious material can be used inappropriately.

Advantages of velvet

Among the main advantages of velvet curtains in the interior, it is worth noting the following:

  • they are ideally suited for creating a festive atmosphere in a room;
  • Such curtains can be used in a variety of styles; they will decorate both minimalism and hi-tech;
  • velvet curtains are quite thick, and therefore they will protect from various sounds and light;
  • velvet will not allow cold and heat to pass through;
  • high-quality fabric does not fade, and therefore can be used even on the sunny side.

Which curtain rod to choose

One of the main parts of the design of velor curtains in the interior is the cornice, although they often try to choose the least simple ones; they can make your interior much more individual and comfortable. Their purpose is quite simple, they are used to simply move curtains, but their design plays a big role and can either decorate your home or be eye-catching because it blends in with its surroundings. They can also visually increase space. Use a cornice wider than the window opening itself and it will appear wider, visually enlarging the room. But if it seems to you that the window is wider than you would like, then use a cornice of the same width and you will achieve the desired result.

If you are completely satisfied with your window opening, then you should choose a cornice that is a little wider than it; this is the most common solution and will suit many people perfectly. But you should remember not only the size of the cornice, but also the location of its attachment. Most often they are installed near the ceiling or ceiling cornices are used. Well, if the cornice seems unnecessary to you and you are completely satisfied with the curtains alone, then you can hang them on rails, which will be hidden from view and will not distract attention from the velor curtains themselves.

Velvet in the interior

Experienced designers know that they should be careful when working with velvet. Shiny or iridescent velvet curtains will add notes of absurd pathos or theatricality to the interior. The most versatile option is matte velvet curtains in pastel colors. By the way, experts do not recommend sewing velvet curtains yourself. The fact is that this fabric is extremely difficult to cut.

Velvet is a material that has a magnificent appearance and amazing softness. He is able to turn any room into an extremely cozy and respectable place. Of course, creating a luxurious look for a room depends not only on the velvet, but also on what shapes are used. Velvet lambrequins and tassels will help add drama.

Non-standard solutions

When decorating a bedroom window with curtains, do not forget about originality. Your bedroom should have its own unique flair.

Therefore, you will need some useful tips:

  • The contrasting lining looks original, and the velvet patterns on it can be combined favorably and highlight other details and accessories in the interior.
  • A bright colored cornice looks very attractive. Rich colors that you can imagine, for example, lilac, raspberry, lemon, will refresh the interior. But be prepared for the fact that you won’t find the color you need quickly and easily, so you’ll have to paint the cornice yourself.
  • Using accessories, if your bedroom design allows it, always adds coziness. There is a wide variety of them: laces, tassels, fringe, beads, holders. When you go looking for a suitable part, take a photo of your curtains with you to make the search easier.
  • Decorative fastenings always attract attention. They are usually used to highlight a high ceiling.
  • Horizontal stripes came into fashion not so long ago, but they are firmly entrenched in it. You can combine several types of fabrics, combining both light and dark colors, or choose a ready-made one. As an option for a horizontal stripe, you can consider dividing it with a small ribbon, for example, made of velvet, or a decorative element. Roman curtains look great with stripes in the interior.

A question of style

It is generally accepted that velvet curtains have no place in a modern home. According to the prevailing stereotype, this material can only be used in elaborate interiors, decorated in styles such as classicism, empire or baroque, and in an ordinary apartment it will become a sign of bad taste. But is this really so? Partly yes. Therefore, designers give a number of tips:

  1. You should not hang bright velvet curtains in small rooms - this will further reduce the space.
  2. A very important rule: it is not recommended to combine velvet with shabby furniture or cheap finishes. The character of this fabric is very capricious; a harmonious combination will not work.
  3. Matte velvet in pastel colors is perfect for any interior.
  4. Velvet fabrics for curtains go very well with rough finishes. Delicate velvet looks great next to brickwork or plaster, and therefore designers recommend using curtains in modern interiors (for example, in styles such as Scandinavian, loft, hi-tech).

If you nevertheless decide to wash curtains made of velvet fabrics at home, first of all, place them in a special bag. They can be washed in water whose temperature does not exceed 30°C. Please note: squeezing velvet is strictly prohibited! The curtains need to be wrapped in fabric (preferably terry) and gently squeezed in several places. Velvet curtains must be dried unfolded in a horizontal position. You can lay the curtains directly on the floor. You can iron velvet, but there are a number of peculiarities here: you should not turn on the steaming function, and it is also not recommended to press the iron. Curtains and interior design

The style of the bedroom also plays an important role in the choice of curtains. Taking it into account, classic, Roman, Japanese, Italian, roller, short, long, shadow, asymmetrical, night and other curtains are selected. There are many varieties, but it’s still worth finding out which bedroom curtains go with a certain style.

So:

  • The design in a classic style is highlighted by heavy curtains made of velor, velvet or tweed. They look cozy and soft. Satin and silk with voluminous folds fill the classic interior with luxury. Roman blinds harmonize perfectly with curtains in this style;
  • The Art Nouveau style is characterized by uneven, even asymmetrical lines on the curtains. The window can be framed on both sides, but in different ways;
  • country style design includes romantic light colors of curtains, for example, lilac, blue, green, yellow, with small patterns. Light and natural fabrics are also suitable; products made of velvet or silk are inappropriate here;
  • A Scandinavian-style window does not tolerate cute little things. Strict light curtains are welcome here: white, lilac, pink, beige made from natural fabrics without frills;
  • In the Japanese style, as in the Oriental, rough fabrics and simplicity predominate. Short curtains, roller curtains, Roman curtains, which can be decorated with ornaments, are appropriate.
