Art painting styles

The hand-painted furniture service will refresh your interior. It can be carried out in various styles:

  • Classic. This is symmetry, proportionality and geometricity in every stroke of the artist.
  • Baroque. This style is characterized by the presence of large-scale and complex drawings. Rich colors and deep patterns are used here, and characters from mythology are often depicted.
  • Rococo. This is simplicity and elegance. In this style, artists depict various delicate images - flowers in pastel colors, birds, animals, modest patterns.

This is not the entire list of artistic styles. Many craftsmen prefer not to deviate from the Provence - the most widespread and in demand at present. It is characterized by the presence of floral images, delicate shades, silver and gold paints. Furniture painting in Provence style is done using the antique technique. The applied colors are rubbed out, weak brightness of tones, artificial creation of abrasions and cracks are encouraged.

Before artistic painting of furniture is carried out, it must be prepared. This is done for the convenient creation of drawings on an ideal surface, as well as the durability of the applied images. First, the master removes the old paint and varnish, and then carefully sands the area of the future design.

Preparing furniture for painting

In the classic version, you first need to strip off the previous paint layer from the furniture, and then apply a new one. But there is also a modern approach. Modern varnishes and paints make it possible to coat furniture immediately over old paint and even over varnish.

Step-by-step instructions (classic version).

Preparing furniture for painting (before and after)

  • If painting is on a chest of drawers, or any other piece of furniture that can be taken apart, then do it. It is much easier to paint individual panels of furniture.
  • You should always sand the surface before painting. Fine sandpaper is suitable for this. This helps the paint dry faster and go on smoothly.
  • After sanding, wipe the furniture with a clean cloth to remove dust. Then the paint layer will be even and the painting will be clean.
  • Primer is a must for any painting. It is easier to paint on the ground. There are different types of primer: oil-based, latex-based, water-based. An oil base is the most reliable, but be prepared for the smell.

Aging of furniture: craquelure and scuffs

  • You should always prevent paint drops from collecting. To do this, do not put a lot of paint on your brush or roller at one time. After painting, you should use sandpaper or a rag along all edges where paint may accumulate (the bottom of the furniture).
  • The painting should be fixed with a polyurethane fixative (in aerosol).

Selection of designs and materials for stained glass painting of kitchen facades

To make a painted stained glass window, you must carefully select all the accompanying materials. Glass is the basis, so it must be of high quality. Its surface can be glossy or matte. The latter type has good adhesion, which allows you to achieve an impressive result when applying a special contour paste.

Type of paintCharacteristic
Silicate (transparent) They are translucent. When applied to glass, such coloring pigments create a watercolor effect on its surface. Stained glass created using such paints requires firing in a kiln. However, after this procedure, stained glass becomes more durable and becomes resistant to changes in temperature and severity.
Acrylic (cover)They have a bright, dense texture. They mix easily, allowing you to get additional shades. Paints can be applied in layers, creating an opaque coating. It is possible to create contourless painted stained glass windows. To resist fading, a glass picture painted with acrylic paints can be additionally coated with a special protective varnish.

The type of materials used is largely determined by the type of pattern that will decorate the facades. For example, floral patterns or landscapes will most accurately recreate translucent colors. Multicolor abstractions, images of animals or still lifes will gain richness only with the help of acrylic paints.

Using painted stained glass windows as decoration is a win-win option for a kitchen of any style. Their possible uses are presented in the menu below:

Caring for painted kitchen facades

Caring for painted stained glass is quite simple. However, depending on the materials used to create them, it will be different. For example, painting made with silicate paints and fired can be easily cleaned with ordinary detergents. And when caring for stained glass painted with acrylic paints, it is not recommended to use alcohol-containing compounds or abrasives.

Advantages and disadvantages of stained glass painting on kitchen facades

Among the advantages of painted stained glass for the kitchen are the following qualities:

  • variety of options for stained glass images;
  • short production times;
  • light weight;
  • monolithic composition
  • the possibility of quick restoration of destroyed stained glass;
  • practicality.

However, there are also some disadvantages. For example, we should not forget that despite its beauty, the painting is just an imitation of classical technology, pseudo-stained glass. This can be corrected by replacing it with real soldered stained glass or Tiffany stained glass. There is one more drawback: fragility and the need to completely replace the stained glass canvas if it is destroyed. To increase the strength of the product, it is additionally fired or a special protective film is applied. And to avoid complete replacement of stained glass, you can combine painted technology with classical or beveled technology.

Stained glass painting looks great not only on kitchen facades. In this way you can decorate windows, doors, ceilings, furniture, etc. More information about the variety of applications, use in interiors, furniture, and possible style solutions for painted stained glass windows can be found in the menu below:

Decorative painting of furniture is a direction with its own specifics and technological features. Furniture painting begins with sketches. Furniture design must correspond to the basic style of the interior. Sketches are done in full color. If the furniture contains gilding, this will also be reflected.

Sketches. Their motifs will be transferred to the furniture. Author Irina Drozdova. 2020

You need to understand that a sketch is not just a beautiful image. When making a sketch, our artist plans what kind of material he will use to paint, whether gilding of the background or details of the design will be provided. Now there are several options for gilding. The classic way is to apply natural gold. You can use metal or synthetic gold leaf. Each material has its own characteristics, and its choice depends on the use of the item. Metal gold leaf is susceptible to oxidation and is not recommended for use, for example, on kitchen furniture. Synthetic gold leaf has a wider color spectrum and is not subject to oxidation, but in appearance it is slightly different from metal gold leaf.

Painting wooden furniture begins with preparing the surface. If the furniture is new or made to order, it is better to order it without paint and varnish or coated with water-based materials. If the background suits us, it is only matted.

Acrylic paints do not adhere to polyurethane and wax. This coating is removed chemically and the background is painted again. This is labor-intensive and painstaking work that is best done in a workshop.

When we plan to paint furniture, prices are indicated taking into account all technological stages: sketches, surface preparation, painting and materials for it, possible delivery to the workshop and back to the site. If this is not possible, the artist goes to the site and works right there.

The cost of the “furniture painting” position ranges from 10,000 to 150,000 rubles and seriously depends on the complexity of the sketch and the selected materials.
