You can use foam rubber or synthetic padding as a filler. The cuts must be sewn by hand, and the edges must be finished with piping.
Depending on your sewing skills, you can create any type of animal furniture in this way - from simple loungers to spectacular sofas.
When you set the price of a product, aim for it to be no less than twice the cost. Even higher prices can be set for complex types of products.

A year ago, the PetStar company appeared in Minsk, where they make custom-made furniture for animals. MebelMinsk.by met with the founders of the brand - Maria Kulago and Alexey Krasinsky - and found out why HR and a civil engineer got into this business and how they plan to develop it.
Tell us how it all began?
Maria: We have a dog Roxy. The idea came about thanks to her. We were going to buy a bed for her at a pet store, but we couldn’t find anything suitable. Therefore, we decided to do something non-standard and exclusive ourselves. When our friends saw the result, they really liked it. They ordered a bed from us for their pet too. And so it began. (laughs)
Alexey: Our production is located outside the city in a workshop. We create furniture only for pets: cats, small and medium-sized dogs. Furniture is in demand, although we do not have active advertising. Only a group in contact and an advertisement in the newspaper “From Hand to Hand”.
What materials do you make furniture from?
Alexey: We use birch wood for the frame. We spent a long time studying different types of wood. Birch was chosen because it is hard, does not emit resin like pine, and is easy to work with. But finding it is not so easy.
Maria: I sew the pillows myself from natural fabrics. It is either cotton or linen, and the inside is combed padding polyester (holofiber). We plan to further expand our line of fabrics. We don’t use synthetics because they become electrified and wool will stick to them. I would feel sorry for my dog.
How else, besides environmental friendliness, does your furniture differ from what is sold in pet stores?
Maria: Style and exclusivity, probably. Models with a side are especially in demand. Before making a bed, we always check the size of the animal. If this is a Maine Coon cat that weighs 15 kilograms, then the hammock, for example, may not hold up. (laughs) For a dog of the Jack Russell Terrier mini or Chihuahua breed, size S is suitable. For a fox terrier or lapdog - M. We also make hammocks.
Do you have any competitors?
Alexey: Maybe only in Russia. There is nothing similar in Belarus. We can say that this niche is free.
Is this a profitable hobby?
Alexey: For example, a bed with a wooden frame for a large cat will cost 850 thousand rubles. The price depends on the complexity of the work and the amount of material used. We receive 3-4 orders per month.
Maria: This is a hobby for the soul. It's nice when owners and their pets are happy. What do you need to start making furniture for animals?
Alexey: We needed a sewing machine, power tools, wood, fabrics and, of course, an idea. I had to spend a couple of evenings at the computer, create a sketch, a pattern. We are registered as artisans.
Are you planning to expand production?
Maria: Expansion is possible. Now we are analyzing the market. Mostly Belarusians order furniture from us. People from Russia are also interested, but delivery there will cost the same as the product itself.
